Purchasing Materials And Prep

The jars and mirrors I purchased from Hobby Lobby. I purchased 2 sizes of hermetically sealed jars in the glassware craft section for $2.25 each. To maximize savings I went on a week when glassware was 50% off which seems like every other week.
If you do not have a Hobby Lobby try Ikea as they have some great jars as shown which I will be using next. Any jar with a diameter of 4″ or more should be fine. Mirrors were on the same aisle, I used 2″ round mirrors which came 10 to a pack for $1.39. Use square, round or whatever floats your boat just stay under 2 1/2″ diameter.
LED solar lighting can be the biggest expense but Walmart is as of this post selling Westinghouse solar lights for $2.50 to $2.25 each both in store and online. Each light has a diameter of 2 1/2″ which fits perfectly in the Hobby Lobby jars which have a 2 3/4″ diameter hollow depression in their lid. They also have a set of 8 lights you can have shipped free to your local store for $18.00. Wal-Mart No.: 001679896
These LED solar lights require no dismantling for my project which adds to the speed and ease of making each jar. For $2.00 I picked up a tube of Mainstays brand clear all purpose silicone sealant while I was their. After 20 some lights still have 3/4 of tube left.
A trip to Lowe’s and I picked up glass frosting spray in the spray paint area, cost was $4.99. Each can will make from 4 to 8 jars depending upon your skill and amount of coating on each jar. Rust-Oleum & Valspar both make glass frosting spray.
Prep
Since you have all your materials at hand in your clear work area this will go quick. Remove all the lids and metal rings from your jars. Remove any price stickers and clean the outside of your jars with Windex and a paper towel. Lay the jar lids and metal hardware aside in a separate pile and that’s it for prep!
