They are called Sun Jars and are a wonderful outside addition to your deck or garden area. Available from retailers at a cost of $30 up to $50 I wanted to make some for myself and some friends. Being the cheap economical person I am I wanted to create a Sun Jar as cheaply as possible. The results were great and the Sun Jars were enjoyed by everyone that received one.
Here’s my step-by-step guide to building a Sun Jar simple to build and much less expensive than any I have seen to date. My average cost per jar is $5.97, includes 7% tax, which is a substantial savings over retail prices. While your results may vary this average cost is easily obtainable by just being frugal, looking for deals and using coupons.
My build will allow you freedom to change items like the jars and colors while creating a Sun Jar that will stand up to the elements and last.
Materials
- Jars – Hermetic Seal
- LED Solar Light
- Frosting Spray
- Small Mirrors
- Colored Cellophane or Film
- Silicone
Tools
- Pliers
- Caulk Gun
The easiest thing you can do to make this fun is have a clear work area. Have all the materials laid out close at hand. If you are making more than one Sun Jar do all the jars at once. Construction of the jars is simple and not a laborious process.
The average time for a jar takes about 10 minutes or less. Start with purchasing all your items. I purchased the items I needed from Lowe’s, Walmart, Michael’s and Hobby Lobby.
