Phenom II X3 720 – Will it work with my motherboard?
After doing my research I decided to purchase the hot little AMD Phenom II X3 720 processor as an upgrade from my AMD 5000BE X2. As to the question will it work on your motherboard be sure to check your specs before buying any processor. Research & diligence always pay off.
Instead of buying a new motherboard I researched and found even though the manufacturer says X3 is not supported it in fact is. A GA-MA770-DS3 REV 1 is the motherboard I used with the earlier processor and using it again saves me much needed cash. The installation went flawlessly after flashing the Bios to the correct version.
So if you own a GA-MA770-DS3 REV 1 rest easy knowing the X3 720 will work.
Rev 1 and 2 both support AM3 Phenoms:
Rev 1 with the F7 bios
Rev 2 with bios FB.
